The orthopedic specialist public clearly pushed the view that UHMWPE wear particles are very frequent cause of aseptic implant release. Some studies are trying to document this fact objectively.
We found the work describing the presence of these particles and their morphology, but could not find a publication that would objectively correlate the number of particles in different zones around the TEP with a range of tissue damage in these areas. The aim of this study was to develop a method to be able to assess a larger number of samples of polyethylene wear and demonstrates the link between the extent of damage around the TEP and the amount of biologically active otěrových particle sizes UHWMWPE with 0.1-10 micro meters.
