Abstract
The chapter is about physiology of red blood cell production. It deals with cellular resulting in red blood cell production from hematopoietic stem cells, erythroid progenitor cells to differentiation and maturation of erythroid precursor cells.
It covers also control of red blood cell production by means of erythropoietin and its elaboration based on hypoxia sensing.
