World health organisation initiated in June 2009 the meeting of experts related to HIV counselling and testing in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The organizers recommend the traditional voluntary counselling and testing (CICT) to divide to client initiated testing and counselling and provider initiated testing and counselling (PICT).
Experts do not consider in relation to relatively low HIV prevalence in Europe routinne HIV screening among patiens like in the USA. The HIV situation in Europe is characterized by concentrated epidemic (MSM, migrants, IDUs, CSWs).
The discussion was about the offer of HIV testing for pregnant women and about legal aspects of testing among youths. The necessity of monitoring and evaluation of HIV testing and counselling should be implemented in european countries.
