Abstract
Following extensive consultations in 2005 and 2007 the new Guidelines on environmental state aid were finally published in April 2008. This text tries to track down some of the important changes from the previous Guidelines and analyse who is likely to benefit from them.
But first, we start with explaining the logic of state aids for environmental protection, history of Commission’s guidelines and only then we proceed to the discussion of the major amendments in the new Guidelines and their expected consequences.
