A growing number of Internet users in the population may increase the likelihood of detection of hidden populations at risk alcohol users, and thereby reduce treatment costs and possibly increase the treatment capacity. This review will present various forms of Internet usage for alcohol users: an information website about alcohol and its safe use, online screening and brief intervention, online self-help groups meetings, online counseling and psychotherapy.
Results of studies confirm the increasing use of Internet for dissemination and retrieval of medical information, the effectiveness of online screening and brief intervention in the population of problem users of alcohol, and finally increase of the attractiveness of online self-help and therapy forspecific groups.
