Simultaneous resection of liver metastases and primary colorectal cancer

Abstract

Introduction: The authors present their own experience with simultaneous resection of liver metastases and primary colorectal karcinomu.Materiál and Methods: The Surgical Clinic, 1st Faculty of Medicine and FTNsP in the period 1996-2008 68 patients underwent surgery which was the finding of synchronous liver metastases and underwent resection of primary tumor and liver metastasis. In 56 patients (32 men and 24 women), the resection of primary colorectal tumor and liver metastases in one time at 12 in two days.

Results: Mean blood loss was 1080 ml, postoperative complications occurred in 13 patients (23%), mortality was 3.6% (2 patients). The overall 3 year survival is 49%, 5 years 22.4%.

Conclusion: Simultaneous (single-stage) resection of primary colorectal tumor and liver metastases is feasible. For the patient, is beneficial and enjoyable.

In our department we prefer nonanatomical, parenchyma-sparing resections.
