A review on swimmers itch and the occurence of bird schistosomes in Iceland

Abstract

The study on the parasite morphology and DNA sequencing revealed eight species of bird schistosomes of the genera Allobilharzia, Trichobilharzia and Dendritobilharzia in Iceland. Till present, larval stages of Trichobilharzia were identified as the causative agent of swimmer,s itch in the country.
