Superficial skin mycoses (dermatomycoses)

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2009

Abstract

Skin diseases are one of the most frequent complaints in common tourists as well as in travellers to exotic and high risk areas. The hot and moist climate, lower hygienic standards and limited access to health care in the tropics contribute to higher frequency and more severe clinical presentation of dermatomycoses.

Any area of the body can be affected although superficial fungal infections of the feet are the commonest problem. The article describes typical clinical pictures, diagnosis and therapy.
