Abstract
Chronic vascular complications have a negative effect on the quality of life of diabetic patients. Efficient prevention of these complications can positively influence the development of diabetes and it can improve the patient's prognosis.
This can be aided by detailed knowledge of the mechanisms that contribute to the pathological changes to the blood vessels. Timely and effective intervention against risk factors is a requirement not just for successful therapy, but especially for prevention of pathological changes to the blood vessels.
The article serves as an overview of the current options in this field of diabetic care.
