To assess the efficacy of treatment of osteoporosis, it is recommended to employ surrogates for fracture risk, such as measurement of bone mineral density (BMD) using dual energy X-ray absorpliomctry and assessment of bone remodelling using biochemical markers. It is advantageous to employ techniques aimed at quantitative assessment of specific aspect, or bone qualily that repond to the treatment most significantly and best reflect the mechanisms of drug action.
