Abstract

The lecture about the role of mitochondrial dysfunctions in mood disorders, including own results. We suppose that mild dysfunction of some mitochondrial functions caused by changes in monoamine oxidase activity, mitochondrial DNA deletions/mutations/polymorphisms, intracellular calcium, energy metabolism, and activities of electron transport chain complexes, might be basis for homeostatic imbalance in synapses during episodes of mood disorders.
