To report our initial experience with single-incision videothoracoscopic surgery.Between 2009 and 2011, we performed 31 operations using this approach. The aim of this relatively newly introduced technique is to be a further decrease in the thoracic wall traumatisation and thus a further decrease in postoperative pain.
The reduction in the incidence of chronic pain and paraesthesiae related to surgical trauma, faster recovery of the patient, shorter hospitalization time as well as shorter sick leave are expected. Our first experience is encouraging. A more detailed comparison with multiple-incision VTS will need to be assessed in a prospective study.
