On the occasion of twenty years since the foundation of daily rehabilitation stationary ward at Department of Phoniatrics First Faculty of Medicine Charles University in Prague and General University Hospital in Prague the authors processed the medical documentation of children for the period of 2002 – 2012. The authors followed in the study from 2002, which evaluated the first ten years of the stationary activity.
The introduction describes the operation in this type of institution. The surveys inform about the number, sex and age structure of the children, their residence, basic and additional diagnoses, specialists who sent the patients, school grade or specialization, risk in their case histories and indications in consultation examinations.
In the cohort of 971 children (72 % boys and 28 % girls), the age group of 5 to 6 years prevailed. The basic diagnosis was developmental speech disorder in most cases (72%), which was combined with other defects in 14% other cases.
In comparison with the first decade (1992 – 2002) there was a decreasing number of children with palatal speech disorder (palatolalia), hearing defects and stammer. In almost one third of patients the speech disorder was accompanied by the ADHD syndrome (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).
The main diagnosis during admission was modified in the course of monthly diagnostic-rehabilitation stay in 122 cases. Growing numbers of children coming from multilingual environment became obvious.
High interest in placement of children in the rehabilitation stationary ward became apparent in specialists and parents themselves, as indicated by the waiting list period of up to one year.
