Abstract

Erythropoietin is a peptide hormone that stimulates erythropoiesis. Its mechanism of action is shotly reviewed.

There are a few erythropoiesis stimulating agents in clinical use and in development. These genetically engineered epoietins that have found use primarily in the treatment of anemia in chronic renal insufficiency faithfully imitate the effect of endogenous erythropoietin.
