Abstract
This article presents basic information about the islands of Czechia – small pieces of land in reservoirs and rivers. It discusses the formulation of an exact definition of island that is appropriate for Czech conditions as well as GIS-based statistics, official geographic names, classification and the importance of local islands.
These general rules are then illustrated using specific examples of Czech islands.
