DERRIDA AND ROUSSEAU: PRISON OF SUPPLEMENTARITY

Publication |
2013

Abstract

Jacques Derrida„s philosophical project radically impeaches the appearent „nature“ of metaphysical schema of western philosophical thinking. His deconstruction is an attempt to demount the construction of western metaphysics, that is being constructed also by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, trying to exclude the absence by designing the "suplement" as a simple externality.

Starting point of the enquiry presented in this paper is Derrida„s reflexion in On Grammatology, especially his claim that „Rousseau is not the only one, who is imprisoned in the graphics of suplementarity. Every sense and every discourse is jailed there.“ The paper shows from deconstruction„s position the paradoxicality of Rousseau„s conception of immediate communication as distinctive mark of human nature.
