Abstract

The sociology of Émile Durkheim is usually considered to be centered on normativity. Collective norms are important aspect of Durkheim's Division of labor in society, of his concept of anomie as normlessness and even of his religious ideas in Elementary forms.

Yet I will argue that it is possible to center his sociology on the concept on identity as well and that we can find implicit notion of identity throughout his works.
