St. Patrick was probably born in Great Britain in the last quarter of the 4th century.
His grandfather Potitus was a priest and his father Calpurnius was a deacon and decurius. When he was nearly 16, he was taken captive by the Irish.
In captivity he started to lead a serious spiritual life. After six years he managed to escape.
I tis possible that he spent some considerable time in Gaul before he returned to Ireland as a bishop. His mission was very successful.
Tirechan (7th century) left an account of his discussion with the daughter of king Loegaire. St.
Patrick had to suffer many adversities and hardships. He reposed in Ireland perhaps in the year 461.
