Abstract
The space of toilets plays an important role. The meanings conveyed by the use of this space range from a symbolic expression of utmost humiliation, to questioning the delineations of profanity, to a space of illicit activities, to a source of humour when assumed privacy is brutally breached, to a site of privacy for public sexual intercourse (in respective order).
The type of meaning a attached to toilet spaces varies substantially and in this chapter I will try to focus on how meaning is created and attached to toilets in a set of Czech and Czechoslovak films.
