Abstract

The paper describes the Hungarian and Romani ethnonyms used by the so-called Vend Roma, and kinterms used within their families. Data are from a research in progress.

The research describes the grammatical and sociolinguistical status of vend romani. I made sociocultural interviews in hungarian and in vend romani languages with vend romani native speakers from ten villages in three counties of South-Transdanubia.

Most of my collected data are from subregions of Kaposvár, Marcali and Lengyeltóti of Somogy County, and in this area I specifically recognised significant diversity within one county. That is why impossible to conclude general consequence about the whole vend roma community.

The informants cited in my study are bilingual people between 33 and 72 years old.
