The increasing professional demands on social workers and their increasing participation in management in this field require social policy and sociologic knowledge. Identification of social policy and sociologic issues with which students should be acquainted.
In the field of social policy the knowledge should not be limited to issues connected with social support and welfare, but also with issues of social work in the health and educational sectors, employment offices, local and regional government services and other institution in which social workers perform. As for sociology, they should acquaint themselves with issues of special branches of sociology as e.g. sociology of family, community, work and similar other branches.
The present courses “Introduction to social policy” and “Introduction of sociology” will be insufficient.
