Genetic Evidence for a Mitochondriate Ancestry in the 'Amitochondriate' Flagellate Trimastix pyriformis

Abstract

We detected in Trimastix 19 proteins that, in other eukaryotes, typically function in mitochondria, hydrogenosomes or mitosomes, 12 of which are found exclusively within these organelles.
