Palpigradi in caves

Abstract

Palpigradi are small arachnids with a body length of 1-2.5 mm who inhabit caves and cavities in the deeper layers of the soil, especially in tropical and subtropical areas. They are well recognized by their long flagella.

Small surface of their body is probably related to the loss of respiratory organ. Palpigradi breathe skin that is very smooth and without pigmentation.

Today it is known worldwide for more than 80 kinds of Palpigradi.
