Application of GIS for analysis of river network shortening based on historical map sources

Abstract

The chapter presents the methodological approach for analysis of historical changes to the strams by means of digitization and GIS analysis of hisotorical maps. The approach was applied to the Otava river basin where it allowed to identify and quantify the intensive stream shortening during the last 150 years.
