Bond formation with maintenance of twofold charge: Formation of C2O32+ in the reaction of CO22+ with neutral CO2

Abstract

Dication CO22+ undergoes a bond-forming reaction with CO2 and a larger dication C2O32+ is formed. Reaction is studied by means of mass spectrometry and DFT calculations.
