The article raises the question to what extent the political culture of Czech society after the fall of Commmunism is infuenced by its totalitarian experience. It reviews major relevant approaches applied to the problem of communist and postcommunist political cultures in political culture studies.
An ideal and a real component of communist political cultures are distinguished. The elements of communist political attitudes in postcommunist political culture are then sought through content analysis of pronouncements made by members of anticommunist dissident movement and postcommunist political elites.
