The main purpose of this paper is to demonstrate one of the roots of „french epistemology“. The paper will introduce authors who were already forgotten but they still have their own place in current philosophy, such as: Claude Bernard or Isidor Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire.
The fact that they have their place in current philosophy is proved by the texts of Ceorge Canguilhem, who paid his attention to all of these authors and is considered one of the french epistemologists. The „fundamental problem“ for french philosophy in this period is the life and the question how to get to know life.
