Case study – work with volleyball coach using VTI method

Abstract

This study investigate issue relating to the impact of social contact and social skills of volleyball coaches on the effectiveness of training and creating a favorable training (motivational) climate. The participant of this study was youth volleyball coach (male, 44 years) from Pilsen.

Work with him lasted for two months from April to May 2011. The aim of this case study was to use the Video Interaction Training (VIT) method for working with coach in order to develop his social skills and consequently evaluate utility of this method on the basis of behavior changes.

The core of this intervention method is a basic three-step process - making a short video of training session - analyzing and editing the video to assess strengths, plan feedback – feedback and creating training goals. This cycle was 4 times adopted.

In order to evaluate utility of VTI method video analysis, participated observing and semi-structured interviews were used. Results show progress of selected skills and indicate that VIT method is useful and acceptable for sport coaches.
