New learnings in diagnostics and treatment of glomerulonephritis

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |

Abstract

Glomerulonephritides still represent an important cause of chronic renal failure. Recent progress in the understanding of the pathogenesis of some types of chronic glomerulonephritides resulted in the new options of non-invasive diagnostics and monitoring of the activity of these diseases.

New immunosuppresive drugs (including biological treatment) recently introduced into the treatment of some glomerular diseases are aimed to have better therapeutic index (at least the same efficacy and lower toxicity). The aim of the treatment is not only to induce the short-term remission of the disease, but to improve the long-term outcome of the patients, namely the risk of chronic renal failure.
