Abstract
Obituary significant Czech bohemists that his whole life merged with the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague. Jiří Hronek died in the summer of 2013.
His research interests focused primarily on Czech phraseology, stratification of Czech and sociolinguistics. He was one of the founders of the field of Czech for foreigners during their teaching activities of foreign educated several generations of scholars.
