Abstract

Severe trauma is the most frequent cause of death in patients younger than 45 years. Complex and highly specialized care provided to multiple-trauma patients in trauma-centre could significantly reduce mortality.

In pre-hospital setting, the achieved delivery time is a key factor associated with survival. The most important aim of the EMS provider is to assure primary transport of severe trauma patients to the definitive care hospital (trauma-centre) and reduce the pre-hospital time of treatment.

Only early dispatch of helicopter emergency medical service based on pre-hospital trauma triage criteria could systematically ensure trauma-centre availability to majority of patients in desired 60 minutes.
