Re-expression of nestin in the myocardium of postinfarcted patients

Abstrakt

Nestin is reexpressed in the adult human myocardium from day four postinfarction in cardiac muscle cells. Distribution of nestin shows characteristic spatial and temporal distribution in cardiomyocytes and documents a role of this intermediate filament in remodelling cytoskeleton in human postinfarcted myocardium.

Nestin is also reexpressed in angiogenic capillaries which highlights a role of this protein in heart regeneration.
