Progress in the treatment of portal hypertension

Abstract

Therapy of portal hypertension was due to progress in many parts of medicine, changed in the last years. Clinically significant complications of portal hypertension are: bleeding from varices, ascites, hepatorenal syndrome.

Therapy with betablockers, terlipressin, somatostatin and aquaretics is mentioned as endoscopic therapy and transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS).
