Discourse Analysis in Contemporary French Perspective

Abstract

The article is dedicated to the French traditional discourse analysis. After mentioning the history and current situation of the discourse analysis as seen in francophone prism the author mentions its basic foundations, i.e. mainly “science du langage” and the interest in the description “énonciation”.

In addition, the author discusses the discourse situation and its connection to some related subjects. The notion “discourse” is presented in an opposition to the history by É.

Benveniste and this model is applied to the basic classification of media texts. Furthermore, single concepts, which are interconnected to énonciation (i.e. modality, subjectivity, polyphony, intertextuality and others) are mentioned.

The final part of the article describes the connectors – their importance, role and specifics.
