A Children´s Rights Perspective: Children with Intellectual Disabilities in Care

Abstract

In this presentation, attention is focused on the need for a new international Human Rights instruments, how the CRC was elaborated, what was the role of civil society into the drafting process, what have been the tensions in this process and the achievements. In the second part of the presentation, the CRC articles that are relevant to children with intellectual disabilities and their families and how NGOs can be involved in monitoring the CRC is discussed.
