We report a case of 5-year-old boy with a week lasting pain and a discharge of the right ear. Symptoms persisted without improvemenet despite antibiotic treatment.
The otoscopic finding seemed to be a poly mass obturing a external auditory canal and was accompained with a sanwuinolent discharge. The boy´s head was examined by high resolution computer tomography (HRCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with finding of soft tissue mass filling the externalauditory canal, a middler ear, mastoid and its air cell system and large bone destruction in the area of the mesotympanum, protympanum, apex of pyramid and cacoritc canal on the right side.
The final diagnosis of rhabdomyosarcoma was set down by hsitological exmination of a sample obtined from polyp mass in external auditory canal. The aim of this article is to call attention to a possibility of rare but serious caouse of the ear discharge.
