Intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy preceding bone marrow transplantation in haematologic malignancies, as well as the transplantation itself, usually leads to functional and metabolic disturbance, with a risk of malnutrition. Therefore, supportive care, including metabolic and nutritional support, is indicated.
The authors describe the processes involved in malnutrition development and the possible management options, namely the means of supportive care in general and nutritional support in particular.
