Abstract
This paper discusses current student nicknames, especially nicknames that arose from personal names (first names and surnames) of person who is called by the nickname. The relatively rich linguistic material, which we obtained by investigations carried out in Prague secondary schools in the form of simple questionnaires and structured discussions, we have tried to show their diversity and to reflect current linguistic tendencies of their creation.
