Johannes Amos Comenius: Opera Omnia

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2013

Abstract

The new volume of the critical edition includes the works of Comenius related to the past and present of the Unity of Brethren. His edition of the Latin text and Czech translation of the eighth book of History of the Unitas Fratrum written by a Polish noble Jan Łasicki is followed by two Latin treatises, Lesnae excidium and Acclamatio votiva.

Both are related to the Second Northern War in 1656-1658. The former describes the siege and fire of Leszno and temporary decline of the local Brethren exile community.

The latter addresses the Swedish king Charles X Gustav and appeals to him for signing a peace treaty with Denmark and for following virtues of a Christian ruler.
