Distinguishing characteristics of the unified state examination in Russia

Unified state examination in Russia and another states of the Federation is a centrally held way of testing students in secondary schools. It is the exam that every student is obligated to pass after finishing secondary school to enter a university or a professional college.

This exam was first set in 2001 as an experiment, but is still considered a question of present interest. In this article the author will focus on main features distinguishing this type of exam from similar ones of the American and European educational systems, mainly on the reasons of its implementation, in its structure, subjects, types of monitoring and measuring materials, system of scaling, atc.

The author will also discuss several latest improvements and innovations to the unified state exam in education system of Russia in general.
