Abstract

The essay shows the development ofSlavic idea and the idea of Panslavism in Eastern Europe after 1945. The Communists used the traditions of russophilism among the Czechs, Slovaks, Serbs, Montenegrians and Bulgarians.

Among these nations Russia was seen as the protector of Slavs. The Communists used this model to develop friendship between to the Soviet Union.

The model never worked in Poland, however, because Russia was here seen as historical enemy.
