Abstract

On the basis of the town privileges, the study deals with the interest of Charles IV. in the Czech towns. The ruler strode to obtain money from the towns for his political activities on the one hand and to improve their economic situation on the other hand.

The first objectiv is documented by the certificates of loans, temporary exemptions from the taxes as compensation for giving loans and guarantee charters, the second one mainly by the privileges supporting and protecting the market in Czech towns.
