The monography gives a complex picture of the medieval world and it does so on the basis of four stories based on French and Czech sources. The substance of the book are commented fragments from the History on Melusine by Jean d'Arras, from the Chronicles by Jean Froissart, from the verses of the court poet Eustache Deschamps and from Czech literary works of the break of the 14th and 15the centuries.
Through their intermediary it draws near to today's reader the secretive sphere of myths and legends, the life at sovereigns' courts, the rivalry of court cliques, amusements of the powerful, battles and military campaigns, cavaliers' tournaments, food of the medieval cuisine, problems of travelling and troubles of the everyday life.
