The majority of studies on the subject of UV-reflectance in butterflies is primarily concerned with sexual selection. There is only a few papers examining the influence of various environmental factors on the UV-reflectant patterns.
My article gives a summary of various hypotheses about the matter in which particular environmental factors influence the morphospace of these patterns and the intensity of UV-reflectance. Added are the results of my own research on Common Brimstone (Gonepteryx rhamni).
