The study is devoted to the phenomenon of intercultural communicative competence (ICC). Many questionable variables remain despite an increasing interest in this field.
We shall focus on two: ICC conceptualization and development. Firstly, content analysis of 17 models will be presented, together with a resulting ICC model.
Secondly, a university course focusing on ICC development will be introduced, together with a questionnaire assessing the ICC. Selected research findings based on the questionnaire measuring ICC development of future English language teachers will be presented.
The research results show that ICC development in the context of formal education is possible, however, the significant differences among various ICC dimensions vary.
