Abstract

Blockers of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) have, in the eye, an antiangiogenic, antiproliferation and anti-inflammation effects and they lead to lowered vascular permeability. They play a role in the treatment of wet form of age-related macular degeneration, myopic degeneration with the presence of choroid neo-vascular membrane, in treatment of diabetic macular oedema and oedema with occlusion of the central retinal vein.

The following review lists characteristics and results of clinical studies focused on specific VEGF blockers in treatment of these diseases.
