Terminology of each branch of knowledge represents an important communication medium, due which information and knowledge are mediated to others. This article analyse evolutionary terminology used by grammar school teachers during biology lessons.
In total 30 teachers from 26 Prague grammar school were given a questionnaire and they were polled in the first part of wider research. We discover that: 1.
Grammar school teachers confuse quite often terms like “environmental”/“nature selection” or “Darwinism”/”Darwin’s evolutionary theory”. 2. Some genetic terms belong according teachers also to the key evolutionary terms; it seems – teachers understand evolution from the neodarwinian point of view despite the do not reflect it. 3.
Endosymbiosis is the most acquaintance post-darwinian evolutionary theory among grammar school teachers.
