Early examination of coagulation with point-of-care diagnostic devices during peripartum hemorrhage

Abstract

Peritpartum haemorrhage (PPH) is a major risk factor for maternal morbidity and mortality. Early monitoring of the coagulation status in patients with PPH may be crucial for effective haemostatic management.

The point-of-care systems for thromboelastography ( TEG© or ROTEM©) and for coagulation testing (CoaguChek® for PT or Haemonetic® for ACT APTT, PT, fibrinogen) are used for rapid haemostasis testing in whole blood near the patient now. They also monitor the treatment success within minutes and enables individualized and effective therapy.
