Matthaeus Collinus of Chotěřina

Abstract

Humanist Matthew Collinus of Chotěřina († 1566) worked at the Prague University as a teacher of classical languages. However, there was a follower of Luther's learning problems.

Later he founded a private school for nobles in Prague. His teaching activities were focused on reciting and reading Grecian texts, but also organized student theater.

In his verses, asked political leaders and the kings of support for science and art. He was the author of several textbooks, Latin, Latin, Czech and German dictionary and religious writings.

Preserved remained part of his correspondence with Czech and European humanists, among others, with Melanchthon.
