The European Union and the United States of America – Comparing Population Trends

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2013

Abstract

The European Union exceeded the threshold of 500 million people in 2009. This level was exceeded due to long-term annual population growth, both natural and migratory.

The annual population growth rate in the EU-27 is significantly lower than in the United States of America, where the population exceeded 300 million people in 2006. According to recent population projections, it could be assumed that until 2100 the U.S. population catches up with the European Union (in its definition from 2010), due to different level and structure of population.
